Fans of the Fallout series might finally be getting their first actual indication of when season 3 of the show is expected to premiere. This was revealed by actor Kyle MacLachlan during a recent Barnes & Noble event.
Table of Contents
MacLachlan, who portrays Hank MacLean on the show, informed fans attending the event that filming for the third season is currently ongoing. However, he added that there is approximately one additional month of filming remaining before production concludes. MacLachlan then speculated that fans could potentially see the third season of the show begin airing as early as May or June.
While MacLachlan’s comments are unofficial, they appear to align with other information that has been made available regarding the television series’ production schedule.
The timing works out well for a release date in either May or June of 2027. Although Prime Video has not announced a specific date yet, we should look at this as an informed guess.
We know that Walton Goggins posted pictures on Instagram in July indicating that he had started the lengthy transformation into the Ghoul. It is also estimated that filming for Season 3 will finish in November.

That’s supported by other sources. Some are reporting the season will come out in 2027, and that’s partly due to the fact that it uses so many visual effects. Newsweek thinks the most probable time for release is mid-to-late 2027. If MacLachlan is correct, the new episodes may be available towards the beginning of this time period.
Season 3 was renewed in May 2025, which occurred several months prior to the premiere of Season 2. Moreover, Executive Producer Jonathan Nolan has publicly expressed concern regarding the growing gap between seasons. Additionally, production is proceeding rapidly.
Season 1 aired in April 2024 and Season 2 was released in December 2025. It appears that a premiere date in either May or June of 2027 will result in approximately the same period of waiting time.
Fallout Season 3 Cast
The main cast will be returning, with Walton Goggins reprising his role as The Ghoul, Ella Purnell returning as Lucy MacLean, Aaron Moten continuing his portrayal of Maximus, and MacLachlan continuing to play Hank. Also returning is Moisés Arias, who will continue to portray Norm.
In May of 2026, it was confirmed that Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) would be joining the series. Shortly after, Prime Video revealed three additional actors: Manny Jacinto, Emily Mortimer, and Thomasin McKenzie.
As of right now, there hasn’t been anything officially released regarding what their role will be in the show. Fans are speculating that the first season may focus on the battle for control of New Vegas between Caesar’s Legion and the NCR. However, at this time, that is purely speculation.
Fallout Season 2 Ending
The second season ended with some serious twists in the form of Lucy’s confrontation with her dad going poorly and Norm growing closer to Claudia. The finale also left open many questions regarding the Enclave sleeper agents that Hank referred to. However, the show did not explain why they existed. These open ends will provide the foundation for Season Three to develop further.

Franchise With Deep Roots
Fallout started as a role-playing game developed by Interplay Entertainment in 1997. At that time, it had sold approximately 600,000 units. Therefore, there were some signs of a potential franchise; however, there was no indication as to what lay ahead.
In 2007, when Bethesda Softworks acquired the rights, Fallout became a massive multi-billion-dollar enterprise with multiple major sequels and spin-offs, and Prime Video’s adaptation has provided Fallout with a significantly higher degree of mainstream visibility.
Fallout Records
The reason for Prime Video wanting to continue producing the program is evident from the viewership figures. The first season of the show was watched by 65 million people during its first 16 days on the platform. The second season was watched by 83 million individuals globally.
At present, the show is the second highest-performing return series for Prime Video of all time. Additionally, the first season received over 100 million views and 17 Emmy nominations, including a nomination for Walton Goggins as Lead Actor.
The critics were equally impressed. Rotten Tomatoes gave Season 1 of the series a 93% rating and Season 2 of the series a higher 96% rating. One critic wrote that the series was a great example of how to blend multiple genres.
The series had excellent production values and strong acting, which would set a standard for all other live-action video game adaptation projects. Another critic wrote that although the science-fiction elements are dark, violent, and at times hopeless, the series is still extremely entertaining and humorous.
Why Prime Video Wants To Move Fast
Given such high viewership numbers, it is understandable why Prime Video would desire to maintain a consistent release schedule for Fallout. A successful program such as this is highly sought after.
Additionally, as time elapses between releases of seasons, there is a risk that the audience’s enthusiasm will diminish. In addition to maintaining public interest in the television series, consistency will help sustain public awareness of the video game series upon which the television series is based.
Re-Watch
If you haven’t seen the first two seasons of Fallout, don’t worry about being too late to catch up. Both seasons are currently available for streaming on Prime Video, meaning that you will have more than enough time to watch all 16 episodes of the show before the third season begins.
If you are already up-to-date with the show, then the most important thing to do is to go back and view the final episode of Season 2 and pay close attention to the Enclave sub-plot. It appears as though this sub-plot will be significant.
