Fans of old-school shooter games and dark science fiction will only need to be patient for a short amount of time. On October 14, Warhammer 40k Boltgun 2 will release, providing fans with an additional chance to experience high-speed, violent, first-person battle against the forces of Chaos.

This second game in the series will continue the narrative of the first game (released in 2023) and include another playable character, an expanded campaign mode, and a great soundtrack.

Warhammer 40K Boltgun 2 Release Date

The game is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2026, for PS5, XS/X/S, and PC through Steam. There was also a Switch 2 version confirmed by developers; however, that will be coming at a later time, and there is currently no release date set for that version other than sometime after. Just like its previous iteration, Boltgun 2 is a single-player-only experience, even though there are two playable characters.

The sequel was originally announced back in May 2025, and now the developers (Big Fan Games and Auroch Digital) have given us the whole story. As a quick aside, some people write the name of the game as Boltgun 2 and others as Boltgun II, but no matter which way you spell it, it is the same game.

A Second Hero

The main difference will be that you can now play as either Nyra Veyrath, an Adepta Sororitas Battle Sister, or return to Malum Caedo from the first game. You can select either character to control. However, they have distinct playing styles.

Malum Caedo has come back with his boltgun, chainsword, frag grenade, and obliterating charge. He is the straightforward fighter who would be best for those who want to advance quickly and use firepower to defeat their enemies.

Nyra is more nimble. At the beginning of the game, she has a Power Sword and Bolt Pistol. Additionally, her Fervent Slide provides her with both upward and downward movement as well as side-to-side motion. In addition, she has a Melta Bomb for clearing groups of enemies. According to a hands-on preview of the demo, as you continue to progress through the game, she will acquire many of the weapons that are standard issue for the Sisters of Battle (e.g., Flamethrower).

There are other weapons that can be obtained as you progress through the campaign, such as Flamethrowers, Stakethrowers, and Shotguns. Some areas will provide you with AI-controlled Death Korps of Krieg troops as teammates, adding some additional content to the base game’s format.

Larger Campaign in Warhammer 40K Boltgun 2

The second installment of this series is much larger than the original. In total, you can expect to explore over 30 separate areas as you battle against each of the four main factions of the Chaos Gods – Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne and Slaanesh.

Additionally, there are over 40 new types of enemies that were introduced into the game, as well as several changes made to the way bosses are fought; they now require players to complete more steps in order to defeat them and are generally harder to beat. As a fan of the series for many years, I’m sure you’ll recognize the plague-carrying Nurglings and Chaos Cultists. However, if you’re new to the series, you might not know what the Bloodletters or their Juggernauts look like.

As a result, you have greater flexibility than before. However, you will need to complete each level again if you wish to experience every aspect of the game. Therefore, you have many reasons to return after your initial playthrough.

The Story So Far

The story in Boltgun 2 begins at the exact point that the original game ends. In order to investigate claims of increasing chaos activity, our two heroes journey to an isolated star system. They immediately find themselves facing Vashtorr the Arkifane, a demigod and daemonic smith who has been spreading corruption across numerous planets.

To defeat him and send him back into the warp, Malum and Nyra will need to move quickly from planet to planet to cleanse each planet of the corruption that enables Vashtorr to carry out his plans.

Rahul Kohli provides the voice for Malum Caedo, and Alanah Pearce provides the voice for Nyra.

Composer of Warhammer 40K Boltgun 2

Boltgun was heavily inspired by the original Doom, and now with the addition of Mick Gordon, who composed the music for DOOM (2016), DOOM Eternal, and Wolfenstein: The New Order, it will push that influence even more. Gordon composed a brand new song for the final confrontation with Vashtorr, and the official release trailer gave us our first listen. It’s difficult to think of a better fit than Gordon for the series’ style.

About The First Game

The first game was a big success and is a great way to start your journey into the world of Warhammer. In fact, if you didn’t play the original game, then I would highly recommend playing this one. It will give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of gameplay and the overall tone of the game.

The original game featured the player taking control of the character known as Malum Caedo. It took place several years after the events of Space Marine. As for its visual design, the game used a retro art style that was heavily influenced by boomer shooter games such as Doom.

This type of art style worked very well for the game and received a great deal of praise from reviewers and gamers alike. On average, the game had an 87.43% rating on Steam.

Now, the second game will continue to have many of the same qualities that made the first game so popular. However, there are some improvements being made. These improvements include additional variety in the enemies you face, more types of weapons available to use, and a bit more freedom to explore.

Try The Demo First

The game’s developers are also giving players a chance to find out if this is something they would enjoy prior to release. Since May 21, there has been a free demo of the game on Steam. This demo includes two levels.

Players can take each of the two main characters through each level and then decide which character is better for them. The game’s developers are also looking for player feedback regarding any problems that may occur during the demo. A preview of the demo stated that it seemed to be a bit linear.

However, the game’s developer said that when the final version of the game comes out, players will be able to explore larger areas and experience more dynamic elements within each area. Therefore, it may be best to think of the demo as a small portion of the entire game.
